Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Dr. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, Chairman of the Masjid Council and former vice-president of Indonesia and the accompanying delegation on Thursday evening at the Presidential Palace. Dr. Kalla conveyed the best wishes and regards of the President of Indonesia to the President and people of Afghanistan and briefed on the Indonesian delegation’s meetings conducted with multiple Afghan officials from ministries of Haj and Religious Affairs, Industry and Commerce as well as Office of National Security Council, the Islamic Republic peace negotiating delegation, and Afghanistan Ulema Council during their visit to Kabul, the presidential press office statement said.
The main purpose of this visit is that how Indonesia as the largest Muslim country can cooperate and help in Afghanistan peace process, he added. He expressed concern over the upward spiral of violence across Afghanistan and called on the Taliban to put an end to the ongoing acts of violence, according to the statement. The Indonesian delegation stressed that Indonesia as a moderate Islamic country has good experiences on peace making process and that they are willing to share them with the Government of Afghanistan.
They iterated that Indonesia is ready to facilitate a conference of Islamic World Ulema to exchange views over peace in Afghanistan and to host a round of peace negotiations in their country.
President Ghani welcomed Dr. Jusuf Kalla and the accompanying delegation conveying his best wishes and regards to the President and people of Indonesia. President Ghani said that Indonesia with the largest Muslim population in the world and its great experiences on peace could greatly contribute to the success of Afghanistan’s peace process. Indonesia’s immense experience on peace will not only be instrumental for the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, however for the Taliban to show moderation and cease the senseless violence, the statement added. President Ghani extended gratitude to the delegation for showing willingness to host the Ulema Conference in their country and said the Islamic Ulema have full consensus that the ongoing war in Afghanistan is illegitimate.
“The ongoing violence harms the innocent people of Afghanistan and is utterly intolerable,” added the President, as quoted by the statement.
