Iran Assures UN of Supporting Afghan-Led Peace Process

Kabul (BNA) Special Representative of UN’ Secretary-General in Afghanistan Jean Arnault met with Iranian Foreign Minister’s special envoy for Afghanistan Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian in Tehran on Monday, Iranian media reported.
Jean Arnault heading a delegation arrived in Tehran to meet with Iranian officials and discuss Afghanistan’s issues, according to local media.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed current developments in Afghanistan including Afghan peace process and the security situation.
Pointing to the fact that Iran regards peace and security in Afghanistan as its own peace and security, Taherian stressed, “We support intra-Afghan dialogue, owned and led by Afghans themselves and we are ready to cooperate in paving the way for intra-Afghan dialogue”.
He also emphasized the need for preserving Afghans’ achievements in last two decades.
The two sides also expressed concerns regarding the increase of violence in Afghanistan over recent months and called for reduction in violence and the prevention of civilian casualties.
