Kabul (BNA) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s press statement in response to the recent car bomb attack in Logar province that martyred and injured scores of fasting Afghan civilians.
Condemning the perpetrators of this terrorist attack, the Security Council offered its condolences to the Government of Afghanistan and the families of the victims of this brutal attack and called on the governments of member states to cooperate in the fight against terrorism with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
In the statement, the UN Security Council expressed its grave concern over the continuing violence, the killing of civilians, and insecurity in Afghanistan, and called for an end to the violence and a ceasefire.
While denouncing all forms of terrorism as a threat to international peace and security, the Security Council called for bringing to justice the perpetrators, organizers, and sponsors of the terrorist attacks. In line with international rules and Security Council resolutions, the Council calls on all countries to cooperate actively with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism.
In support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Council stressed the need for all States to join hands in the fight against all terrorist threats which jeopardizes international security and peace, taking into account the UN Charter and international rules, including human rights law, international immigration law, and international humanitarian law.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the UN Security Council’s stance against this barbaric attack and its support for the Afghan people in their fight against terrorism and emphasizes the need for an immediate ceasefire that paves the way for meaningful negotiations and the establishment of lasting peace in Afghanistan.
