Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Public health stressed the need for serious measures to be taken to prevent the third wave of COVID-19 in Afghanistan. Wahid Majrooh, acting Minister of Public Health on Monday in a provincial meeting with public health directors, representatives of the private sector, representatives of health care providers, and the ministry’s department emphasized that serious measures need to be taken to contain the third wave of COVID-19. MoPh stated, that during the meeting officials from technical committees and a number of health directors presented their activity reports, challenges, suggestions, and the current circumstances caused by the pandemic were also discussed.
The ministry of Public health also praised the efforts and preventive actions taken by the officials of the Ministry, private sector, medical council, and other relevant institutions, Majrooh said, “Fortunately, there is a better coordination between MoPH and other institutions” this can further provide facilities and support in preventing the third wave of the coronavirus. Majrooh also announced that MoPH is ready to fight the third wave of the COVID-19 and has instructed the relevant authorities to assess the mass production and capacity of oxygen productions in the capital and provinces so that efforts could be made accordingly.
The acting minister also added that relevant departments are authorized to take serious preventive actions to provide coronavirus diagnosis kits to private and public hospitals, pay salaries to health care workers, use RRT teams as clinical teams and hire new staff in laboratories if needed.
The meeting also aimed at suspending travels and flights from India to Afghanistan, restrict commute on the Pakistan and Iranian borders. According to the statement, the preventive measures will also be discussed with government leadership and the Security Council, so a decision could be made on the government level for preventing the third wave of the disastrous virus. Afghanistan has recorded 210 new covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, and simultaneously six individuals have died due to the virus.
