Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Friday took part in celebrating the launch of the satellite for South Asia through a video conference, a presidential statement said on Saturday.
According to the statement, President Ghani congratulated the Indian Space Department on the successful launch of South Asian Satellite, hailing it as a large step toward regional cooperation.
President Ghani noted South Asia was one of the least integrated regions in the world. “South Asia today has taken a giant step towards regional integration,” he said.
The South Asia Satellite will offer participating countries YV services and communications technology for bank ATMs and e-governance, and may even serve as a backup for cellular networks, the statement added.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives signed up to make use of the satellite.
