President Ghani Praises Germany’s Support to Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Heiko Maas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany on Thursday at the Presidential Palace and discussed Afghan-German bilateral relations as well as the Afghan peace process and its upcoming steps, according to a presidential palace statement.

President Ghani praised Germany’s assistance and support for Afghanistan in various areas and welcomed opening of a new chapter of relationship between Afghanistan and the international community. “The relations between

Afghanistan and Germany will continue based on mutual respect and common interests,” he added, as quoted in the statement. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stressed that although German soldiers are withdrawing from Afghanistan, Germany would remain committed to the government and people of Afghanistan.

He said that Germany would continue to provide assistance to Afghanistan on military, humanitarian and development spheres and stand with the people of Afghanistan at any circumstances, according to that statement.
