Safari Defeats His Russia Rival in EFC Competition

Kabul (BNA)  Afghan MMA fighter Hussian Bakhsh Safari defeated his Russian rival, Aktyabrin Yakovlev, in the Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC) in Moscow on Tuesday night. Both opponents fit the 65kg weight class.

Safari won the fight in the final round by higher scoring against Yakovlev. Yakovlev has a record of two victories and three defeats in MMA.

“Congratulations to all our compatriots on the victory of Hussain Bakhsh Safari, who defeated his Russian opponent in Moscow,” President Ghani said in a message, adding that “recently, our athletes have brought honors to Afghanistan with great effort in various sports and conveyed the true message of our people, which is peace, prosperity and peaceful coexistence with other nations of the world.”

The country’s second Vice President also congratulated Safari’s victory and said: “From time to time, he brings joy to the people of Afghanistan and pride to the country.”

Safari is profession is a Ju-Jitsu practitioner who has won many gold medals for his nation. He has six wins and one loss in his record.

He has won his first gold medal in Jujitsu at Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan back in September 2017.
