Taliban Killed, Wounded in Laghman Latest Clashes

Mehtarlam (BNA) The Taliban have suffered heavy casualties in the latest fighting in Laghman.

The clashes took place overnight in Alishang, Dolat-Shah districts and the outskirts of Mehtarlam.

Thirty-six insurgents, including several Pakistani commanders and fighters were killed and several others were wounded in the fighting, according to reports.

The heaviest casualties to the Taliban were in Dolat Shah District; where for three days now it has been evidence of counter-terrorism operations.

As part of the operation, a group of assailants attacked civilians last night, but were faced with a timely response from the Army and Air Force.

General Zalmai commander of Selab Corps in the east of the country told BNA that 30 Taliban insurgents were killed and 17 others were wounded in the incident.

He added that Qari Hemmat, a Taliban intelligence official and five local commanders, Mullah Halim, Mullah Tufan, Mullah Qudrat, Mullah Malik and Mullah Munib and seven Pakistani fighters were among those killed.

Most of the Taliban were killed in the air strikes.
