Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, the UK State Minister for South Asia and Commonwealth on late on Friday on the sideline of the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity; Challenges and Opportunities” in Tashkent of Uzbekistan.
Lord Ahmad lauded President Ghani’s efforts for Afghan women’s education and progress and said UK as Afghanistan’s strategic partner is willing to continue its cooperation with Afghanistan in support for the Afghan National Defense and Security forces, Afghan women and in development areas, a presidential palace statement said yesterday.
President Ghani said that providing educational opportunities for the children of displaced Afghan families and improving their financial status is among the government’s priorities in order to help them stand on their feet. He added that the digitalization process should be nationwide and accelerated, the statement further said.
“We want peace, and the Taliban must embrace the call of the Afghan people for a dignified and enduring peace rather than resort to war and violence,” the statement outed the President as saying, while underscoring that Pakistan should make sincere efforts in this area.
President Ghani referred to the capabilities and valor of the Afghan Defense and Security forces and said we will take control of all affairs of Afghanistan after withdrawal of the international forces.
During his stay in Tashkent, the president also met with Secretary General of the World Customs Organization. During the meeting, they discussed the modernization of customs, Afghanistan’s valuable role in regional cooperation and the establishment of infrastructure and procedures for customs.
President Ghani emphasized the need to accelerate the digitalization process, saying that Afghanistan’s Central Bank has been digitalized, adding that the process would be country-wide and salaries to be digitalized as well.
In return, the Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization assured the President that he would work closely with the relevant authorities to implement the digitalization process.
