Taliban Shadow Governor for Laghman Killed in Peshawar

Kabul (BNA) A shadow governor of the Afghan Taliban has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.

Abdul Hadi Pashaiwal, the Taliban shadow governor for eastern Laghman province, was gunned down close to his residence in Bakhshu Pul area on Saturday.

Pashaiwal came under attack on his return from Mardan district where he had gone to offer condolences on the death of a relative, a Taliban leader was quoted as saying on Sunday.

The assailants managed to escape, Daily Times reported. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the murder.

But a Taliban source suspected Islamic State’s involvement in the attack on Pashaiwal — the second Afghan militant leader killed near Peshawar in five weeks.

In early January, Taliban commander Abdul Samad Mullah Toor had been killed while offering morning prayers at a mosque near the provincial capital.
