Saturday, August 05, 2017

Kabul (BNA) The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Friday said the use of technology would be limited to the voters’ registration and verification during the Wolesi Jirga and district council election.
IEC Secretary Warimach while stressing over the use of modern technology said it will help resolved many challenges during the election process.
He said the IEC demanded the international community to provide technology support to the election body in voters’ registration, verification and vote council process.
He added the international community assured the use of technology in the voter’s registration and verification processes but declined the help provide the modern facilities in the remaining two areas citing inappropriate conditions.
He said the global community believed that Afghanistan was not prepared to the full use of technology and suggested its gradual use.
Warlimach said: “Until now no voter has been registered in any polling center and with the use of technology every voter would be connected to the specific polling center with his her fingers print and photo.”
During the Election Day every voter would be eligible to vote in the locality where he she is registered.
It is pertinent to mention that the election commission has set the date for Wolesi Jirga and District Council Election as July 18, 2018
