Afghan Singer Afsana Nawabi Dies at 70 in Germany

Kabul (BNA) Afsana Nawabi, one of the first female singers to perform on the radio and TV in Afghanistan, passed away in Germany on Sunday, her relatives confirmed.

She performed live on Afghan radio and TV networks in the 1970s. She was born in Kabul in 1951 and had graduated from Rabia Balkhi High School in Kabul. Afsana began her singing career when she was 14, while still attending school.

Her famous songs were “Chora Pesham Name Aye (Why don’t you come to me),” “Man Mast-e-Bahar Husnat” (I am drunk from your beauty’s spring) and “Desmal Medozaam” (I sew handkerchiefs). Some of her songs were also performed by Iranian singers.
