NATO Commander Supports President Karzai’s Remarks

Kabul (BNA) The commander of NATO-led forces, General Josef Dunford has welcomed the remarks of President Hamid Karzai in which he called for halting air strikes on residential areas.
Addressing the leadership conference of defense ministry here yesterday, President Karzai while condemning the air raid in Shigal district of Kunar province which left 14 civilians dead and injured the president called upon NATO-led troops to stop air attack on residential areas. “I summoned the NATO-led forces commander and questioned him.
The commander told me the Afghan forces sought air support,” President Karzai in his address.
President Karzai also stated, “In no circumstance, Afghan forces can’t call for air support from foreign troops”.
General Dunford while supporting president Karzai’s remarks said other ways to be sought in supporting Afghan security forces.
The commander also noted that the civilians’ casualties have been considerably reduced due to precautionary measures.
