Kabul (BNA) Kabul Acting Police Chief said that more checkpoints have been installed in different parts of the capital city to further improve security.
Lt. Gen. Mohammad Salem Ihsas told reporters that up to 323 individuals had been arrested in connection with criminal activities in the past one month.
“Police have finally set up checkpoints in the diplomatic enclaves of the city, where vehicles are thoroughly investigated” said the acting police chief.
According to him, in line with the interior minister’s order, senior officials including district police chiefs and unit commanders have been transferred to the province.
“Security scanners had been installed at two gates and two more would be set up soon to improve the security situation,” said Ihsas.
He added 323 criminals had been arrested on 196 different charges in the past one month on murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and street crime.
Police also recovered a huge quantity of drugs in 64 raids. Heroin, opium, hashish, hookah and alcoholic drinks were seized during the raids.
Some Kabul citizens in different districts of the capital have been seen contented for the move, police recently adopted as Maryam, a government employee said she was not sure to could return home after job due to most potentially suicide attacks and explosive ordnances placed on the roadsides.
However she criticized the organs concerned for doing this very later than required.
“If the government had provided the Kabul gates with the available checkpoints and scanners, suicide attackers and explosives bearers couldn’t enter the Kabul city and wouldn’t succeeded to blow establishments and kill innocent citizens,” said Maryam.
Welcoming the security plan, finally taken into force, she asked the government for doing more to protect people live and provide the capital resident with peaceful atmosphere.
Another Kabul citizens, Zekrullah who works for the Bank-e-Millie Afghan (Afghan National Bank) told The Kabul Times that he has seen many times armed thieves and pocket robbers and other similar criminals grabbing the passersby money, by force and in various tricks.
“I am really pleased for what the government, particularly the related organs are doing for security of the country. Installation of checkpoints at the four gates of the capital is a good security policy, through which the government can protect people life and property,” he said.
Explosive attacks on the country’s big cities, particularly the capital mostly takes lives of innocent civilians as recently the UN warned a rise in civilian death in the first six months of the ongoing year, saying the rate has raised by two percent compared to last year.
If both sides of conflicts—security forces and the armed opposition pay attention to civilian and care about their in the war zones, the number of casualties will reduce and trust between the people and the government would rise further than ever.
