Hairatan Port Reopened to Commercial Goods

Sunday, July 4, 2021
Kabul (BNA) Hairatan Port, one of Afghanistan’s largest commercial ports, reopens.
The port was closed to trade four days ago following an armed Taliban attack on the Hairatan suburb.
Mohammad Rafi Ghaznawi, an official in charge of the Hairatan Port Services Department, told BNA that the process of trading goods through the Hairatan Port resumed yesterday afternoon.
The port of Hairatan connects Afghanistan with Uzbekistan and through it to other Central Asian countries and the world.
The reopening of the Hairatan port apparently took place after security in the Hairatan district improved and talks between Afghan and Uzbek border guards.
The two sides discussed efforts to provide security and alleviate the concerns of trade convoys.
Most of Afghanistan’s consumer goods, including food, fuel and construction, come from Uzbekistan through the port of Hairatan.
On the other hand, most of Afghanistan’s goods are exported to Central Asian and world countries through this port.
