Farmers Face Water Shortage in Farah

FARAH (BNA) local officials demand the construction of the “Bakhsh Abad dam” in Farah saying the level of underground water in that province is decreasing day by day if the dam is not rebuilt the residents will face severe water shortage.

Shamsuddin a resident of Farah told BNA correspondent in the Balablok district of Farah: In addition to farms, many areas are facing a shortage of drinkable water.

He asked the officials of the Islamic Emirate to pay attention to the construction of the Bakhsh Abad dam to prevent the water shortage.

Adam Jan, a tribal elder, called for the construction of the Bakhsh Abad Dam adding that the construction of this dam, will irrigate many lands in Farah.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Faisal, head of Farah Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, said that the efforts to revive Bakhsh Abad Dam are being pursued.

He added that the proposal and request of the people of Farah regarding the construction of the Bakhsh Abad dam have been shared with the officials of the Islamic Emirate in the center and the officials of the Islamic Emirate have promised to cooperate in this regard.

On the other hand, Burhanuddin Meenawal, the head of Farah water supply said that in recent years, the underground water level has dropped between 5 and 6 meters and has caused many problems for the residents and farmers of that province.

Meenawal believes that if the authorities of the Islamic Emirate do not pay attention to the demand of the residents of Farah, the problem of water shortage will increase and they will be forced to leave their areas.

The Bakhsh Abad Dam is located 110 kilometers from the center of Farah in the Farahrood District and two of its tunnels were under construction during the former government administration.
