President Karzai Appreciates British Cultural Center Activities In Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) President Hamid Karzai met in London with the director of the British Cultural Center in Afghanistan John Michal in presence of Mrs. Barnos Usha Parshar general director of the council.
At the meeting President Karzai expressed appreciation over activities of the British Cultural Center in Afghanistan and added that we are pleased to support the center’s educational programs.
He added that learning of English language as a means of need in our schools have created good opportunity for their higher education.
John Michel said at the meeting that the center is committed to work in Afghanistan and support of its long-term expansion.
He stressed that having regular English teaching method that is applied in all education system of Afghanistan has brought about the best results for the youth to gain international skills and attract investments and represent their country at the international level.
Following this meeting, two agreements which were concluded for strengthening of the English language in the education system and higher education of Afghanistan between the government of Afghanistan and the British Cultural Center started work.
The first agreement covers training by the British Cultural Center 16500 English teacher of the Education Ministry of Afghanistan throughout the country on accepted standards.
On the basis of the second agreement the British Cultural Center will work with the Ministry of Higher Education for teaching of English language starting from the Medical and engineering faculties.
It should be said that British Cultural Center started its activities in Afghanistan in 1964 and that since time it has maintained its cultural links and supported the government of Afghanistan.
