First Soybean Factory In Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) The ministry of agriculture and livestock has said that it could successfully create a Soybean Milk in the Kabul Industrial Townships.
It said the factory had been financially supported by the S. Korea, with the ministry’s spokesperson, Lutfullah Rashid told, the farmers are being encouraged and financially supported by the Maturation and Production Association, which distribute soybean stuffs among them and after collection and purchasing the products and sending to the plant, milk and oil would be extracted. Several of types of Soybean produced edible items are also produced from the leguminous herb, which would be distributed among the people, the spokesperson said. The program launched by the ministry of agriculture, is the first one, to have covered the farmers to collect the yields and cover those with the nutrition would also be one of the projects aims to cover, by the soybean produced items containing up to 40 percent protein which could even be used instead of meat.
“The soybean factory was not operational in Balkh, Kunduz, Parwan and Baghlan provinces in the north and this year it had covered some 16,200 acres of lands in 31 provinces of the country, hoping to could yield more products and further popularize plantation of the herb across the country,” said Rashid who added last the ministry could yield four thousand of the soybean yields and this year hoped to collect additional amount of up to 6,000 tons. Construction of the factory building is expected to be completed by the end of this year (solar calendar) and the needed machineries expected to be brought from S. Korea would soon be installed, the spokesman added. The machineries is said to have a capacity of producing 8 metric ton soybean milk each day being lodged in 40,000 packages, said Rashid and 45 professional individuals are working in the factory, but indirectly hundreds of people are engaged in work in the factory. Chicken feeds are also produced from the plants, with the ministry of agriculture planned to create a chicken food producing plant as well to help the staff not wasted.
As plantation of the herb has been popularized all over the country’s 31 provinces, the ministry tried to professionally train some 17,500 farmers across the country to plant soybean and moreover, they are being distributed free chemical fertilizers and improved seeds, by the said institution which has been a good partner for the ministry since 2002.
The products are expected to be exported to foreign countries, as well as the Afghan soybean enjoyed a high quality, he said, going on as saying the ministry of agriculture and livestock is planned to extend the project of soybean producing plant to the southern province of Helmand, as well. Right now seven soybean flour producing factories and one oil producing plant are active and operational in Kabul. He asked the country’s farmers and people to support their domestic products, particularly the soybean products.
