Kabul (BNA) The chief executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has called for removing distance between government and people.
He made the remarks during his speech on “National Conference on Effective Local Governance” here yesterday.
The ongoing war in the country, he said has been backed by certain circles. However, he added that Afghans want honorable and lasting peace and it is necessary to take the people into account with regard to the reality going on their country. In the three-day conference opened by the chief executive, members of provincial councils from 34 provinces attended and exchanged views on how to monitor the performances of the local governments.
Terming distance between people and the government as a challenge in the country, the chief executive said that one of the main reasons behind the country’s problems is the gap between government and people and the provincial councils as representatives of the people can make zero the distance by monitoring the performances of the local administrations.      “We had told the people to hand over power to us , we would return the power to you and the objective was to monitor the government’s performance,” the chief executive said, adding we continue to support you the representatives of the people in the provincial councils. The government won’t succeed until the people support it, the chief executive said, adding the main problem over the past 13 years was the distance between the people and government officials. The leaders of national unity government have been working hard to make zero the distance and eventually stabilize peace, security and development process in the country.
