MoFA Condemns Sweden Knife Attack

Kabul (BNA) Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan condemned the terrorist attack in Sweden that led to injuring of a number of people.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that an assailant has attacked civilians with a weapon in central Vetlanda, Jönköping on Wednesday afternoon, injuring seven people,” the MoFA statement said, adding that “We strongly condemn this criminal act and offer our sympathies to the families of the victims.”

The ministry statement also said: “We pray for the swift recovery of the injured and wish to see the criminal, who was injured and arrested during encounter with police, brought to justice.

Swedish police said they were investigating possible terror motives for a knife attack on Wednesday in which at least eight people were injured, and that the assailant has been arrested after being shot and wounded.

Some of the victims were in serious condition and the suspect, a man in his 20s, was hospitalized after his arrest, a police spokeswoman told a news conference. The man was previously known to police for minor crimes, she said.

All eight victims were hospitalized and three had life-threatening injuries, the Jonkoping regional council said on its website. Police said the suspect attacked at least five different locations in Vetlanda.
